J. Michael Putman, MD

Prior to his untimely demise in October 2023, Dr. J. Michael Putman arranged to have his practice continue with Dallas-Fort Worth Fertility Associates. We honor Dr. Putman with this memorial:

Dr. Putman completed college and medical school in Georgia prior to joining the OB/Gyn residency program at Baylor Hospital, and joined one of the premier groups: Strother, Devareaux, Wells and Putman from 1977 – 1985.

He had a penchant for surgery, and in 1985 decided to pursue infertility full time, as reproductive medicine was largely a surgical specialty at that time.

He was one of the first in Dallas to pursue tubal anastomosis, and also one of the first physicians in Dallas to perform Laparoscopy in the mid-1980s.

The surgical aspect of infertility was what initially drew him into the field. He was a one of the founding members of the Society of Reproductive Surgeons – a special interest group of the ASRM that was started in 1984.

In 1989, Dr. Rueben Adams – Chief of the OB/Gyn Department – somehow convinced Dr. Putman and his former partner to start the Baylor IVF program, Baylor Center of Reproductive Health.

In 2004, they privatized the Program under the name of Texas Center of Reproductive Health.

In 2011, he founded Fertility Center of Dallas located at the Baylor Pavilion Medical Building which was acquired in 2024 and continues to thrive as part of Dallas - Fort Worth Fertility Associates.

Dr. J. Michael Putman was one of the first physicians to bring fertility treatments to our great community of Dallas.
