Day Trips from Dallas During Treatment

We love Dallas, but we fear our patients who remain put here during their IVF cycles are more likely to fret and worry than get out and see the local sites. For that reason, we recommend getting out of Dallas Metro area and taking a day trip or two, exploring some of the fun, beautiful, and interesting things to do in the area.

The majority of these recommendations are just a one or two-hour drive away, making it easier for you to get to and from your hotel without a whole lot of fuss, preparation or time required to get there and back.

1. Head on over to Fort Worth

Fort Worth is often referred to as “where the west begins,” but it’s also nestled right up against Dallas, making it an easy destination for out of towners. Since we’re big believers in self-care in order to minimize the emotional toll taken by fertility treatments, your first stop should be The Woodhouse Day Spa, and we recommend their Signature Four-Handed massage (two masseuses are better than one!) or their Mellow Mama Massage.

Trinity Park is a wonderful place to take in the Fort Worth skyscape, along with riverfront walking and biking trails. Or, head to the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, where there are multiple themed gardens to stroll and enjoy. The large majority of the gardens are free, but the Japanese Gardens are worth the $7 entry fee. If you find yourself there on the third-Saturday of the month, you can enjoy watching a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.

2. Enjoy Nature’s Beauty & Tranquility at Beavers Bend State Park

Is the stress of fertility treatments taking its toll? Mother Nature provides one of the best reprieves from internal stress, and Beavers Bend State Park is a gorgeous place to enjoy her beautiful scenery. Located in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, the Beavers Bend River is the state park’s star. Enjoy plentiful nature trails, fresh air, and beauty. You can also enjoy nearby Hochatown, which is known for its restaurants and shopping.

3. Visit the Silicon Valley of the Southwest (aka “Austin”)

Austin has long been touted for its music scene, but its affordability has also transformed it into the Silicon Valley of the Southwest. This has further enhanced Austin’s art, music, great food and shopping scene. If you only have a single day, check out this  Itinerary for an Unforgettable Day in Austin from austinot.com. It provides a resident’s idea of how to get the most out of the city in short window of time.

4. Stroll Fredericksburg’s Historic Main Street

It’s true that Fredericksburg is known for its more than two dozen wineries – and those are off-limits for you since you’re TTC. However, its historic streets are fun to stroll and there are plenty of other things you can do to occupy your time. We suggest the Pioneer Museum, taking a scenic drive along the Willow City Loop (described as “Texas meets Tuscany”), or a visit to Wildseed Farms – the nation’s largest, working wildflower farm.

5. Relax Near OK’s Largest Water Fall in Turner Falls Park

Turner Falls Park is home to Oklahoma’s largest waterfall, and also offers an array of walking trails that wind you around the park’s various, natural water features. We recommend bringing a picnic and eating it in one of the park’s picnic sites or beaches. If you don’t feel like swimming – or you forgot to pack your swim suit, you can still enjoy the refreshing wading pools, explore one of the park’s three natural caves or visit the novelty shops.

The physicians and staff here at the Fertility Center of Dallas want you to make the most of your time while you’re here. Feel free to ask us about things-to-do or places to go in the area, tailored to your interests. We’re always happy to help.
